Gratitude as a Predictor of Depressive Symptoms over Time
Lim Young-Jin

Abstract
In previous research, negative associations have often been found between gratitude and depression. However, the majority of such studies have relied on cross-sectional data. The current longitudinal study of college students (n = 55) with high levels of depressive symptoms examined the association between gratitude and changes in depressive symptoms over a 12-week period. Multiple regression analyses revealed that gratitude was a significant predictor of future depressive symptoms, even when controlling for Time 1 levels of depressive symptoms and optimism.
